The account
Henry Morgan took the richest city in the New World with a jungle-sick army, and when the loot was divided, the men who bled for it got pennies. Either the wealth of Panama burned, or it left the column somewhere on the trail to the sea. His wrecked ships have been found off Lajas Reef. His arithmetic never has.
Leads, where the trail points now
- Where the trail goes cold: Morgan burned Panama and marched the plunder back across the isthmus, and the official division was so small his own buccaneers cried theft. The difference has never been found. That is where any serious search begins.
