The account
An entire silver fleet, cornered in a Spanish bay and set ablaze rather than surrendered. Verne had Captain Nemo fund the Nautilus from this very mud. Three hundred years of salvage have raised cannon and coin and arguments, the records of what was carted ashore before the battle, conveniently, disagree.
Leads, where the trail points now
- Where the trail goes cold: A treasure fleet was trapped and burned at Rande in 1702; salvors have worked the mud for three centuries, and dispute what was unloaded before the battle. That is where any serious search begins.
- What you are chasing is The silver fleet that inspired Jules Verne. Work the documented record of The Galleons of Vigo Bay back to primary sources and separate what is attested from folklore.
- Spanish heritage waters, excavation by permit only.
