The account
Two detectorists, Reg Mead and Richard Miles, chased a farmer's rumour of silver 'pieces' for thirty years before the signal finally came: a single fused mass of about seventy thousand Iron Age coins, gold torcs, and jewellery, the largest Celtic coin hoard ever found. Three decades of patience, one impossible afternoon.
How it was found
- Two detectorists, Reg Mead and Richard Miles, searched a single Jersey field for 30 years on a farmer's rumor of silver coins, and in 2012 finally hit a half-ton mass of Celtic coins and gold.
