A Scythian burial mound near Almaty gave up a warrior dressed head to foot in four thousand pieces of gold; the kurgans of the steppe hold many more, mostly unopened.
How it was found
- Soviet archaeologists digging a Scythian burial mound near Issyk, Kazakhstan, in 1969 uncovered a warrior dressed head to foot in some 4,000 pieces of gold, now the national symbol of Kazakhstan.
