The account
When the Jesuits were ordered out of South America, the wealth of their missions did not sail with them. At Sacambaya the story is specific: a hill, a chamber, a season of secret digging. The valley has since defeated engineers, treasure syndicates, and at least one private army. The hill remains.
Leads, where the trail points now
- Where the trail goes cold: Monks and laborers worked underground for months before the order was expelled; a 1920s expedition hauled in 80 tons of gear and found tunnels, fever, and nothing. That is where any serious search begins.
- What you are chasing is Jesuit mission gold, buried before the expulsion. Work the documented record of The Sacambaya Treasure back to primary sources and separate what is attested from folklore before you commit time or money.
- Confirm who owns and governs Sacambaya Valley, Bolivia and get written permission before any search; treat protected or archaeological ground as off limits.
