The account
Beaten at Gravelines, the Armada fled home around the top of Scotland and into Atlantic storms that flung two dozen ships onto the Irish coast. At Streedagh Strand three great ships went down together; La Girona broke up off Antrim with a fortune in gold and jewellery aboard. Divers have found three of the Streedagh wrecks, the rest of the Armada's bones lie scattered along 500 km of rock.
