The account
High in the Tien Shan, a lake so deep it never freezes hides a city along its northwestern rim. A quake in the early 1400s slid a Silk Road settlement under the shallows, and in 2025 a survey team walked underwater drones over its walls, streets, and a Muslim cemetery in water barely waist to chest deep. A caravan town, paused mid-trade, three feet down in some of the clearest water on earth.
