The account
Titus carried the treasures of Jerusalem through Rome in triumph in 71 AD, the golden Menorah, the trumpets, the table of shewbread, carved forever onto his arch. They were laid up in the Temple of Peace, and there the record ends: the temple burned around 192 AD, and the Menorah is never certainly heard of again. Carried to Carthage by the Vandals? To Constantinople? Hidden in Rome? Two thousand years of searching, and the lamp is still dark.
