The account
A Minoan city on Santorini was buried under volcanic ash around 1600 BC, frozen like a Pompeii of the Aegean, and is a leading candidate for the real Atlantis.
Leads, where the trail points now
- The Minoan town buried by the Thera eruption around 1600 BC, the Pompeii of the Aegean, with frescoes preserved under the ash, and a leading Atlantis candidate.
- It is a protected excavation under a modern roof, and only a small fraction has been dug.
- Tellingly, no gold and almost no human remains have been found, which suggests the people fled with their valuables, so the unexcavated town may still hold them.
