The account
Teddy Tucker pulled the finest piece of shipwreck treasure ever found in Bermuda out of a 1594 wreck, and twenty years later, in a museum case, it quietly became plastic. The thief has never been named. Somewhere, the real cross is being admired by exactly one person.
Leads, where the trail points now
- Where the trail goes cold: Swapped for a plastic replica sometime before Queen Elizabeth II's 1975 visit, the fake was only noticed when someone looked closely. That is where any serious search begins.
- What you are chasing is A gold-and-emerald cross from the San Pedro (1594). Work the documented record of The Tucker Cross back to primary sources and separate what is attested from folklore before you commit time or money.
- Confirm who owns and governs Bermuda and get written permission before any search; treat protected or archaeological ground as off limits.
